Hook'd Pier Bar & Grill: Reviews & Ratings
Last meal before a plane ride out of town. Ordered shrimp baskets & a crab cake. The crab cake was absolutely delightful & the sauce that came with it was heavenly. The shrimp was perfectly breaded and fried. The fries had a lovely light breading and well fried. We're good & crunchy even cold hours later. The only hiccup was some of the hush puppies were over fried & a bit too dark for our liking. Once showing our server she promptly went and got us new ones that were not over cooked. The hush puppies were very delicious. Will for sure be back on our next trip.
Hook'd was pretty good as far as dining in a high traffic tourist area goes. I feel the fried shrip could have used a but more seasoning in the batter. I'm giving the service a three because I had to ask for ketchup three times. They eventually brought it to me me but not before I walked to another table to get it myself. Our server was really nice, and once our order was taken, the food came out quickly. Atmosphere wise, it's great! You can sit outside by the water or inside, and they have all kinds of torches burning for ambiance. I'd come back again.
Such a cute little beach side restaurant! With quite a bit of outdoor seating, there are plenty of views to take in. I had their blackened chicken tacos, but I loved all of the combinations and choices you had on the menu. Their chicken tacos were delicious, and my friends that I was with couldn't say enough good things about their dishes too (grouper tacos and chicken alfredo). Their drink menu was also a hit, albeit kinda pricey for drinks, but everything was delicious!
We had friends come in from out of town and decided to stay on the beach. After walking the pier and browsing reviews, we decided to give Hook'd a shot. The entrance was a little confusing and cluttered - most people were trying to get in line for the pineapple drinks, and that caused some congestion for getting a table. Once we were seated our server was really friendly and helpful - because we had never ordered them before, we all got a mixed drink in a pineapple (heads up, the pineapple adds $7 to whatever drink you get) - I'm not sure what others ordered to get fruit added on top, but ours didn't really have extra fruit on it. Oh well, the mermaid water and the punch were really tasty - sweet, but a nice drink for a vacation afternoon. My husband and I ordered the inferno wings, and grouper sandwiches (one fried, one blackened) with fries. The fish and fries were great - fish was fresh and the fries seemed to be double fried and soft on the inside. Our friends got tacos, which they enjoyed as well. It was on the expensive side, but it was fresh, tasty, and the service was good - more than I expected in a very touristy spot! Would certainly go again for those wings and fish.
Recently stayed in Panama City Beach & Hook’d was one of the higher rated seafood restaurants in the area. I’m happy that the solid reviews were correct. Atmosphere is great as you’re right on the beach & while service was a little slow, our waitress was kind. Food prices are probably a couple dollars higher than average but nothing crazy for being in a heavy tourist area. We had the fried grouper sandwich & blackened mahi sandwich. Both were prepared well, ingredients were fresh & flavorful. Also ordered some hush puppies for our daughter and while those were pretty dense, the flavor was still good. Overall, a good dinner & experience, would recommend if you’re in the area
There's nothing like having a meal with a view of the beach. Hook'd does that and more! Though their menu was on the smaller side for being on a touristy street, I actually quite appreciate it. You can tell that Hook'd has been here for a while, and then deciding on keeping their menu relatively small means that they care about the quality of their food. You can definitely taste it too! My partner and I had the catch of the day. I had mine fried, he had his blackened. You couldn't go wrong with either way, because both were delicious. Mine was perfectly fried, salted, and with the added lemon and tartar sauce, it was great. I could also taste how fresh it was as well! Their fries were good too. My favorite part about this place is that dogs are allowed, so long as they are leashed and behaved. We don't get to bring our boy with us to many places, but I'm glad we got to bring him here. Our waiter even got him his own bowl of water, and our boy was definitely thankful. Lastly, the service was wonderful. We had the kindest waiter who was super friendly, conversational, and informative. I feel bad because I forgot his name, but he was definitely one of the best waiters we've ever encountered. You can't go wrong with this place!
Loved this little place! Right on the beach with a gorgeous view. We had the fried alligator tacos and grilled Mahi Mahi tacos. All delicious and fresh. I cannot remember our servers name (pregnancy brain) but he has worked there for 11 years. Him and the rest of the team had amazing team work to get everyone in and out as efficiently as possible. All the staff was super nice and friendly. We will be going back on our next trip. :)

Hook'd Pier Bar & Grill, nestled at 16201 Front Beach Rd in Panama City Beach, offers an inviting beachside dining experience where fresh seafood and coastal flavors take center stage. This vibrant spot captures the essence of a pier-side grill with a casual yet lively atmosphere, complete with outdoor seating overlooking the water and warm torch-lit ambiance that perfectly accompanies a sunset meal.
What stands out about Hook'd is the genuine quality found in its dishes. The shrimp baskets and crab cakes are frequently praised for their delightful flavors and well-executed preparation. The crab cake, paired with a heavenly sauce, melts in your mouth, while the shrimp delivers a perfect balance of light, crispy breading and tender seafood inside. Fries, often double-fried for that ideal crunch outside and softness inside, complement these dishes beautifully. Even the hush puppies, a classic Southern staple, are thoughtfully prepared. Though occasional over-frying has been noted, the attentive staff ensures replacements swiftly improve the dining experience.
The menu’s versatility is another highlight—blackened chicken tacos, grouper sandwiches (fried or blackened), and inferno wings showcase a menu that honors both traditional and bold flavors. Many guests appreciate the freshness and thoughtful seasoning of the seafood, which speaks to the quality sourcing and kitchen care. While some seasoning could be tweaked, the overall flavor profile remains fresh and engaging.
Additionally, Hook'd offers a notable drink menu, featuring tropical mixed drinks served in pineapples that echo the fun, beachy vibe—though with a premium price. The service, described as friendly and helpful, complements the setting despite occasional hiccups with drink orders or timing. Given the location in a bustling tourist area, the slightly elevated prices feel justified by the food quality, refreshing atmosphere, and attentive service.
In sum, Hook'd Pier Bar & Grill is a solid choice for anyone seeking flavorful seafood with a scenic backdrop in Panama City Beach. Its fresh fish, well-executed classic dishes, and vibrant beachside ambiance come together to create a memorable dining experience worth returning to on future visits.
